Here in Lake Erie's western basin we have some of the best walleye fishing there is, hence the name walleye capital of the world. In the western basin we have been blessed with many natural structures and habitat that walleye love.
With upwards of 30 plus reefs and many surrounding Lake Erie islands it allows us to use multiple techniques to catch them. In the spring time after ice out we start off by jig fishing with hair jigs and minnows in shallow water as the walleye are spawning. After the spring spawn we switch over to drift fishing with a Carolina rig and gold blades tipped with a nightcrawler also known as a Lake Erie weapon.
We do our drift fishing by turning the boat sideways and use the wind to drift across the open mudflats and structures of the reefs and Lake Erie islands. Another technique we use is trolling. When trolling we use multiple rods and planer boards with versions of divers and lead weights. We use the trolling technique when there is no wind to drift fish in order to cover more water and keep you on the fish.
We troll with crankbaits, spoons, and crawler harnesses and constantly switch depending on what the walleye want. So come and see what the Lake Erie walleye fishery is about as there is an estimated 150 million walleye in Lake Erie right now.

Ohio limits a single person to 6 Walleye catches per day. It is common to catch your limit early so you can spend the rest of your day catching Bass, Perch, or other species. Click below for more information on Ohio regulations.
In March & April, we use jig fishing in shallow waters to take advantage of Walleye spawning. In May and through October, we switch over to trolling and drift fishing techniques. Make sure to contact us today and get on the schedule for your preferred technique and time of year.
